“It took me four years to paint like Raphael but a lifetime to paint like a child.”

-Pablo Picasso

Grand Avenue Children’s Centre was established in 1989 as a non-for-profit childcare centre. We are located at 81 Grand Avenue and share an historic building with Grand Wood Park Apartments and Retirement Community. Our centre is in the heart of Old South and minutes from Wortley Village and downtown London. With it’s gorgeous tree lined streets and easy access to parks for picnics and play, Old South was an obvious choice for our centre.

Our centre is known for its on-site intergenerational programming. Partnering with Grand Wood Park, our toddlers and preschoolers attend a monthly “Senior Social” where we enjoy delicious treats and charming chit chat. The preschoolers also participate in an intergenerational art program. Meeting weekly, our in-house artist and preschool teacher Ashley Gayle prepares an interactive craft and, while working in small groups, the children and seniors create wonderful art pieces. We celebrate major holidays with concerts in the auditorium. This is a great opportunity for us to show off our songs with an overwhelmingly appreciative audience. A dance and music program is in the works!

As well, we’ve recently rejoined our neighbours at The Waverley to expand our intergenerational programming.  Our toddlers and preschoolers will soon partner with The Waverley’s seniors for fun and learning.

Why intergenerational programming? It’s a great way to bring the community together. Creating activities where diverse members of a community can work together promotes greater understanding and respect between generations. It helps improve relationships between older and younger people in the area, provides access to creative activities and increases community cohesion. There is a great sense of pride in what different generations can achieve together.

Looking for care? We offer infant, toddler and preschool spots for children from three months to four years of age. Need care right away? We currently have spots available. Please contact us if you are interested in taking a tour of our centre, meeting our kind-hearted and creative staff and learning more about our intergenerational programming!
